Benedict Cumberbatch reveals an unexpected challenge when making Avengers movies. Functioning as Marvel Studios' crossover projects, the Avengers movies tend to culminate Phases in the Infinity Saga. That is about to change as the blockbusters are now reserved towards the end of the Multiverse Saga, with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars set to wrap up the current storytelling era in the MCU. Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange is expected to play a pivotal part in the aforementioned movies, in light of his unparalleled knowledge when it comes to multiple realities and timelines in the franchise.

Having experienced working on Marvel Studios' Avengers films, Cumberbatch gets candid about a surprising challenge when working on them. Speaking with The Talks, the actor reveals that it's actually quite difficult pulling off the emotional scenes in Avengers films, not because of the nature of the movies, but because they can be very busy. This means that the storytelling is usually fast-paced, which doesn't leave them enough time to establish the emotional gravitas needed. Read Cumberbatch's full quote below:

Aside from the narrative expectations for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, this is going to be their biggest challenge. The MCU's backbone has always been having grounded characters that fans can root for, and with several of the franchise's founding members now gone, Marvel Studios need to ensure that the Multiverse Saga is fronted with heroes the public can get behind. In any case, there's no scarcity of talent in the universe now. It will all boil down to how these new players will be utilized for the next Avengers projects.

Al Pacino, when all is said and done, will be remembered as one of the greatest actors to ever do it. The man has starred in timeless classics such as The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon and Heat, just to name a few. But Pacino has also starred in his fair share of, shall we say less-than-great cinematic efforts as well. This is something Pacino is well aware of and, what's rather remarkable is that he views starring in these bad movies as something of an acting challenge.

"I don't think I go in thinking it's not gonna be very good, but it's like Bob [Robert De Niro] said: Sometimes they offer you money to do something that's not adequate. And you talk yourself into it. And somewhere within you, you know that this thing is gonna be a lemon. But then, when it comes full circle, and you see it, you say, 'Oh, no. I'm gonna make this better.' And you spend a lot of time and you're doing all these things, and you say, 'If I can just get this to be a mediocre film,' and you get excited by that. It's an impulse that I've got to just put away now."

For educational purposes, I compiled this list of movies that perpetuate ableism and ones that challenge it. This does not mean that the movies themselves are bad or the people who created them intended to be ableist. You can still enjoy movies while acknowledging that they rely on ableist premises. As a cinephile myself, I do not intend to "cancel" any of the films mentioned here. Instead, I hope to start a conversation. I also want to acknowledge that all of the disabled characters mentioned in this piece are white and cisgender; Hollywood has a long way to go in terms of depicting intersectional identities.

Ableism, defined as discrimination or oppression based on one's disability or perceived disability, pervades our culture. Fear of disability, misconceptions, and stereotypes about disabled people are so common that most people don't even notice them. Popular movies and television shows perpetuate ableism in ways that go unnoticed by mainstream society and even movie critics.
